I’m in a testing lab right now. We’re testing design for a functional part of our product. We’re at the part whereby the moderator fishes for criticism and the subjects eat free food and alternate between pretending that they’re really stupid and pretending that they’re really smart. It’s interesting how, when they start going out on a limb, they just keep going because they know that in testing, the limb won’t break. They can say just about anything and we will just have to take it on faith. There’s a lot of I guess. I don’t know. You can tell when they start losing their confidence. They start verbally searching around and their voice gets softer. Then they regain it with a sudden burst of passion marked by an increase in volume.
It’s over now. Now is the part where we extrapolate all kinds of incidental remarks and have them mean things that support our theories. Then we spin and spin and see who’s theory winds up on top. It’s a fun game. But ultimately, not terribly enlightening.
