What a year, huh? It seemed like the presidential campaign would never end. Then the economic crisis hit, bailouts flooded in, layoffs came on strong, and Sarah Palin simply refused to go away.
"When will it end!!!????" the world collectively shrieked. The answer was presumably 12:00AM on 1/1/09.
Well sorry, people of the world, you're going to have to wait a sec.
Literally. You see, it's not just the global economy that's slowing down. It's the planet. Mother Earth is spinning slower all the time. So scientists recommended that we tack on an extra second to 2008 to keep pace with the planetary slowdown. When you include the fact that 2008 was a leap year, that makes it the longest year since 1992 (when Mike Tyson was accused of raping the 1991 Miss America contestant and we were forced to watch the whole thing on TV - making it a very long year indeed).
You think I'm kidding. I'm not.
The world started adding This is the fourth year to have a leap day and a leap second. It will occur at 6:59:60 p.m.EST on 12/31/08.in 1972, sometimes twice a year. This is first leap second since Dec. 31, 2005.
