THAT is the Triple Murder Burger from The Haven Brother's Diner in Providence, Rhode Island. I did some research and was unable to find out exactly what is in this killing spree of a meal. But I did find that it falls in the triple cheeseburger genus of the species hamburger and that one of the major additions to it is bacon (which you can plainly see). I think I also spot some egg in there...and maybe some fat fuck's $20 gold watch. I post this for the contrast that it helps me create with the type of food that an unemployee really shout be eating. Things like these:
Why do I delve into nutrition on a blog about unemployement?
Nutrition plays a bigger role than most appreciate in emptying the bucket of stress. Eating unhealthy foods (while sometimes cheaper) will lead to more stress, depression and self-image problems. It even makes you look unhealthy…your skin, your hair, everything. And since you’re the product that you are selling, you need to look your best. Healthy foods give you more energy, make you feel healthier and look more vital. All of this leads to how you project yourself in interviews.
Here are two simple lists. They're the same kinds of things that you'll find in most sensible, science-backed diet plans. I kept this list shorter than most of those kinds of lists so that they're easier to remember.
Foods to avoid
- Anything with the word “Mc” in the name – or any fast food for that matter.
- Canned Foods
- Frozen Meals
- Commercial Bakery Items
- Candy & Ice Cream
- Dips and Snacks
- Bread
- Soda (yeah, even diet)
- Alcohol: Depressants and unemployement: a bad combination.
Foods to eat
- Salads
- Veggies fried with a little olive oil
- Fresh Fruit
- Lean meats
- Nuts
- Beans
For a nice book on the subject, I recommend Food Rules by Michael Pollen. Some of his rules:
#11 If it comes from a plant, eat it. If it was made in a plant, don't.
#47 Eat when you are hungry, not when you are bored.
#36 Don’t eat breakfast cereals that change the color of the milk.
#58 Do all your eating at a table.
Also, you can't trust the labels or the government to tell you what is healthy. Trust your instincts.
Stumble It!
